Evaporative cooling: a natural and efficient solution

Evaporative cooling is based on a simple, environmentally-friendly principle: using water to lower the air temperature. An economical alternative to air-conditioning, evaporative coolers are becoming increasingly popular with companies looking to combine energy efficiency with thermal comfort. This is known as adiabatic cooling, a system perfectly suited to large spaces such as warehouses or workshops.

What is an evaporative cooler and how does it work?

A cooler is a device that uses the natural process of water evaporation to cool ambient air.

Warm air is drawn in, filtered through a moist pad, then redistributed cooler throughout the space. No refrigerant gases, no heavy installation: the air is simply purified and cooled naturally.

This process, known as adiabatic cooling, is based on the transformation of liquid water into steam. This transition absorbs the heat contained in the air.

The result: an immediate drop in temperature, with no environmental impact. Unlike traditional air conditioners, this system consumes very little electricity and operates without refrigerant.

This technique is particularly popular in professional environments. For example, Sonepar uses these devices to cool its logistics warehouses. Similarly, Keolis has equipped its maintenance workshops (TCL buses and metros) to improve working conditions. In these cases, adiabatic cooling maintains a pleasant temperature, even in midsummer.

Simple, ecological and affordable, evaporative coolers are the modern alternative to conventional air conditioning. Its effectiveness depends of course on ambient humidity, but in most industrial areas, the results are excellent.

    Is evaporative cooling really effective?

In most cases, the answer is yes. Ecological cooling offers outstanding thermal performance, especially in large areas such as warehouses, workshops or logistics sites.

The hotter and drier the ambient air, the faster and more efficiently it cools. That’s why this system is widely adopted in hot summer zones.

Unlike an air conditioner, which recycles indoor air, a cooler constantly injects fresh, filtered air. This constant renewal ensures better air quality, while limiting health risks (allergens, dust, etc.). What’s more, it doesn’t dry out the ambient air, a real plus for comfort.

Another major advantage is energy efficiency. Adiabatic cooling consumes up to 80% less electricity than a conventional air conditioner. The initial investment often pays for itself within the first few seasons. And as there is no cooling unit, maintenance costs are reduced.

    • Fast, economical installation.
    • Low power consumption.
    • Continuously renewed air.
    • Environmentally-friendly, gas-free system.
    • Ideal for large volumes.

In short, the advantages of a cooler are many: comfort, economy, sustainability. For companies concerned about their carbon footprint, adiabatic cooling is a real answer to today’s climate challenges.
