Industrial air coolers:
How do they work?

Evaporative cooling: operating principle

This air freshener uses the evaporative cooling system. It’s a simple, natural method that has been used for decades in hot, dry countries, because it’s also very economical. This device lowers the temperature felt in a room without the constraints of a conventional air conditioner.

It runs on water, without refrigerant, and consumes much less energy than air conditioning or some mobile air conditioners. The internal fan draws in warm air and passes it over a moist pad, creating an evaporation effect that cools the ambient air. This principle is ideal for coping with summer heat, especially if you’re wondering how to cool a room efficiently without increasing your bills. Coolers are a practical alternative to traditional air conditioners.

Warm, dry air passing through a moist heat exchanger cools down. The energy required to evaporate the water is extracted from the air, resulting in natural cooling. This transformation is said to be Adiabatic (constant enthalpy): the water temperature remains unchanged, only the air temperature decreases. This operating principle is at the heart of many mobile cooling units, often equipped with a water tank and filter to improve air quality.

Unlike conventional heating, these systems use very little energy and also act as a humidifier, which is particularly useful in a home subject to severe drought. Some integrated fans optimize humidity diffusion, making these models both efficient and energy-efficient.

Adiabatic cooling

The main advantage of adiabatic cooling is that the warmer and drier the air, the more efficient the system. For the cooler to work, it needs a power supply and a water supply. The water is drawn from the reservoir by a submersible pump, then trickles down through an exchanger.

This two-fluid heat exchanger (air and water) is made from a cardboard derivative, yet is impermeable. The air passing through the exchanger loses heat and gains moisture. The cooled air is propelled outwards by the fan, instantly cooling the surface and air-conditioning your premises. Depending on the surface to be cooled and the temperature, you’ll need to opt for a specific unit, each with a certain power rating. Several models are available in the FOXAIR range.

Please note: if your water is likely to contain a lot of limescale, we recommendfitting an anti-scale device to your appliance.

Thanks to its adiabatic principle of operation, this type of system is ideal for combating high summer temperatures, particularly during heatwaves.

The cooler’s effectiveness is based on its simple, economical use: once filled with water, simply plug it into an electrical outlet for an immediate blast of freshness. This portable product can be moved from room to room, and is suitable for both domestic and professional use.

It offers an excellent compromise between thermal comfort and electricity savings, with good value for money. To help you make the right purchase, we’ve included a number of tips on choosing the right model, the right ventilation and the right power for the degrees you need to cool down. Some models even include a humidifier pad to further enhance the cooling effect. Find the entire FOXAIR range on our website and compare the products available for made-to-measure comfort.

How do I use FOXAIR?

Unpacking the cooler

Remove protective plastic film and fastening clips.

Remove exchangers

Vacuum the bottom of the tank to remove any cardboard residue.

Connecting the cooler for commissioning

Connect the system to the water supply and then to the power supply.

Installing FOXAIR requires only 3 steps. Its use is just as simple.
